Post Malone Dismisses The Notion Of Music Genres

by HHL JT

Is Post Malone a rapper? He doesn't really sound like one, but the playlists his music often pops up in beg to differ.

The Grammys decided Post isn't a rapper when they booted his mega-hit Beerbongs & Bentleys out of this year's Best Rap Album category.

Post has also been schizophrenic when it comes to whether he's a rapper.  When "White Iverson" broke, he explicitly stated he was "not a rapper" and allegedly told XXL that's why he didn't want to be on their Freshman List. However, earlier this year he lamented the "struggle being a white rapper".

In a new interview with HIts Daily Double, Post has evolved to a "no genres" stance.

There’s been a lot of conversation about what genre your music belongs in—you seem to embrace everything from hip-hop to alternative rock. Do those categories even mean anything anymore?

I like everything—metal, old country, hip-hop, funk and R&B. What I’m not into is boxes. I don’t put people in boxes. There are no genres anymore. If a song makes you feel nice or it makes you feel sad or if it makes you feel anything, what does it really matter what category it is?

You feeling what Post is saying?
