Last month, Fat Joe, a fairly light-skinned Puerto Rican, classified all Latino people as black.
"Latinos are Black. In Cuba, at one time, there was eight million Cubans," Joe said on Ebro while discussing the African influence on Latin music. "Five million, unfortunately, were slaves. Three million were actual Cubans, and they integrated and had babies. Same thing with Puerto Rico when you go to Loíza. And when you talk about Santeria, that came from the motherland Africa. Sometimes, Latinos may even identify themselves with African and black culture more than black people. This ain't no crazy thing. Fat Joe ain't on crack. He know what he talking about."
Jumping off from that, Joe Budden asked his State Of Culture panel, including Joe's Terror Squad girl Remy Ma, how they feel about Latino rappers, including Joe, using the terms n*gga and n*gger.
Here's how Remy responded to that
"I've seen pictures," Remy said about Joe. "I know his whole family. This didn't happen when he decided to become a rapper or an artist. 'Yeah, I'm gonna use the word nigga because this sounds cool.'... He's black. Like, that's it."
It's a long conversation that starts at the 4-minute mark.
