The battles between Lupe Fiasco and his record label Atlantic have been well documented and the Chicago MC has ripped former Atlantic executive Lyor Cohen on many occasions.

Lupe recently blasted Cohen and Atlantic again during a conversation on Instagram Live with Joe Budden. During the chat, Lupe explained how his label strong-armed him so they could own his song "Kick, Push," arguably his most popular record.

They did it by locating the original master recording to the Celeste Legaspi's song that  was sampled to make "Kick, Push" and buying it. [Jump to 16:40 mark]

"You know what they did? They flew down to the Philippines to find the woman who we sampled the record from and bought the entire record from her," Lupe explained. "They actually own the song that 'Kick, Push' is sampled from. That's what they did."

"It's genius," he added. "On some gangsta sh*t, Atlantic doesn't double-dip, they triple-dip. It's f*cking genius. It's cold-blooded ... I'm from the streets. I'm a street n*gga for real. The sh*t's genius. Grow it, sell it, and own the pawnshop that's n*ggas is stealing the TVs and selling it back to you. Genius."

  • What do you think about Atlantic's gangster-like move?
