JAY-Z Reunites With Mentor-Turned Rival Jaz-O

by HHL JT

Rapper and producer Jaz-O famously mentored JAY-Z and was featured on some of his early songs as Big Jaz

But they started falling out when Hov tried to sign him to his new label Roc-Fella-Records around 1996. At issue was Jaz's distrust of Dame Dash and dissatisfaction with only being offered a 300K deal. He didn't sign but continued to work with Hov for a few years.

However, around the turn of the century, they began to full-on turn on each other. Among other things, Jaz is said to have provided some of the material for Nas's famous JAY-Z diss "Ether."

They would snip at each other over the years, on and off wax. Although even while he was dissing him, Jay would usually credit Jaz for helping to pave his way.

Tonight, during JAY-Z's 4:44 show in Chicago, Jaz-O posed for a photo with JAY-Z and hometown superproducer NO ID, suggesting at least some of that water is now under the bridge.
