J. Cole Felt A Way About Kanye Using Him As A "Pawn"

J. Cole has hit Kanye West with subliminals in his tracks "False Prophets" and "No Role Modelz."

But during Ye's recent Tweet storm he sent out a (since deleted) screenshot of a phone conversation he had with Cole, suggesting things were all good between the two.

During his interview with Angie Martinez, Cole explained that he didn't appreciate the way West publicized their chat.

"“He called me, but I would have never posted that or, like, tell him to post that. That made me feel a certain type of way. I told him that. He apologized, for the record," he told Angie Martinez. "It felt like you just used my name in that very quick conversation for, for social media and for like to keep your thing going.  It felt like it wasn’t sincere because of that. I feel like I got used as a pawn, and then that somehow it looks like I agree with what this dude is saying and agree with what he’s doing and the way he’s going about it and really that’s very far from the case.”

As for the conversation, Cole said Kanye was reaching out for help.

“He said, right off the rip, ‘Man, I need you to hold me accountable. Keep me in check. Say whatever you gotta say. I need that. I feed off that.’” Cole responded, “‘Are you sure? Because I see this a certain way.’ Actually, on the phone, I was concerned for him. That’s the real truth. I was wondering like, ‘Yo, am I supposed to be helping this dude?’ When you empower a demographic of people whose whole intent is to suppress and oppress people, I can’t rock with that.” He added, “You’re not freethinking when your ego is pulling the strings.”
