Youngen Gunnin Convicted Of Murder Committed As He Performed

Mississippi rapper Youngen Gunnin was performing at a Louisiana nightclub in 2018 when 23-year-old Da'John Mitchell bumped into a member of his crew.

Things quickly escalated and Gunnin ended up shooting Mitchell four times in the back with a .380 pistol, killing him.

Police arrested Gunnin hours later in his Mississippi apartment.

Last week, he was convicted of second-degree murder and felon possession of a weapon.

"It was a senseless crime," said District Attorney Brad Burget. "Either because Mr. Mitchell bumped Johnson or because of Mr. Johnson's vanity he decided to shoot. There is no justification to take someone's life over purported or perceived insults."

A few months before the murder, Gunnin had been released from prison after serving a two-year bid for aggravated assault.  He was a known gang member.
