Joanna "JoJo" Zarur, the 23-year old who improbably went from Stanford economics student to Young Thug's stylist, dished on Thugger's fashion sense to Pitchfork.
Zarur confirmed what we already suspected: One of the factors Thug puts into his wardrobe selection is how much his threads are going to annoy people.
"Sometimes he'll do stuff on purpose that he knows will piss people off," Zarur explained. "If people start talking shit about his nails being red, he'll put crystals on the nails. Talk about his jeans, he's like, 'I want tighter jeans.' He goes out of his way to make sure people know he doesn't care."Yes, Thugger is a fashion troll.
But before he met Zarur, he was a fashion troll who bought his clothes off the rack of the little girls' department. Now she's hooking him up with more elegant pieces.
"It wasn’t even the women’s section, he would go to the kid’s section and buy a kid’s dress," Zarur explained. "When I first met Young Thug, Birdman came up to me and he was like, "You need to help him." They saw potential in him, 'cause he’s really creative and different, but if you’ve seen pictures of him before, he would wear all girls clothes.
