Young Dolph was shot in the arm and the ass after an altercation in Hollywood, California Tuesday.
He had surgery for his wounds and is still recovering in the hospital in critical but stable condition.
Yo Gotti affiliate Corey McClendon was arrested after the incident for suspicion of attempted murder. He was released from jail this morning because of a lack of evidence.
"Under California law, if you are arrested and booked and no charges are filed within 48 hours, you have to be released," Greg Risling, a spokesman for the Los Angeles District Attorney's office, explained. He said police must gather further evidence, "come back to us with a case and then (the district attorney) will decide whether to file charges."Police still believe the shooting was related to Dolph's beef with his Memphis rival Gotti.
“[Young Dolph was] targeted because of who he is and some kind of beef that’s ongoing," Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said. "I think this was something he brought with him from across the United States."However, the lack of evidence suggests that nobody -- including Dolph -- is talking.
Dolph, Gotti and their crews were reportedly all staying at Loews Hollywood hotel on Tuesday afternoon. At around 1 p.m., Dolph was shot in front of the hotel after an altercation with three men. Two of the men ran off and the third drove away in a Cadillac Escalade, which was later found abandoned.
Gotti was initially called a "person of interest" in the shooting, but police removed that distinction about when they arrested McClendon.
Investigators won't say if there is a video of the incident, or if Gotti remains a suspect.
