Will Smith Opens Up About Chris Rock Slap, Says He Was 'Going Through Something'

by Daryl Nelson

Are the masses ready to support Will Smith again after he slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars in March of this year?

That'll be determined in a few days since his new film Emancipation is scheduled for a December 2 release.

The rapper-turned-actor is now promoting the project, and he stopped by The Daily Show with Trevor Noah to discuss it. Of course, he also talked about the slap. [Jump to the 10:23-mark]

“That was a horrific night, as you can imagine,” said Will. “There’s many nuances and complexities to it but at the end of the day, I just, I lost it. I guess what I would say, you just never know what somebody’s going through ... I was going through something that night. Not that that justifies my behavior at all. I would just say, you’re asking what did I learn, it’s that we just gotta be nice to each other, man ... And I guess the thing that was most painful for me is, I took my heart and I made it hard for other people. It’s like, I understood the idea that hurt people hurt people.”

Do you think Will's career will ever be the same as it was pre-slap?
