Vince Staples Smears Spotify While On Streaming Service's SXSW Stage

by HHL Editors

All the cool kids are in Austin this week for the SXSW festival.

Vince Staples was featured on Spotify's stage there yesterday, and during his set he proved he wasn't afraid to bite all the hands that feed him.

First he joked about the the crowds at SXSW being almost all white.

"I know you’re all at SXSW like 'Let’s watch the black people rap'" he quipped.
Then the always blunt emcee got a little more serious and took shots at Spotify for barely paying artists for spins.

"Shoutout to Spotify," Vince said to the crowd. "Thank you for giving me this check to make up for what you've done to me and all my musical friends. "Listen to your favorite album 1,000, 2,000 times so everybody can get an album sale," he said later in his set.
Late in the day Staples jumped on Twitter and conceded Spotify wasn't all bad.

S/o to @Spotify. The only place I go when I stream my Willow Smith.
