Trippie Redd Says He Prefers Rap Music With Bars & Praises J. Cole

by Daryl Nelson

It's not often that you hear the newer generation of rappers talk about the importance of strong lyrical content. But that's what Trippie Redd did in a recent interview in which he talked about J. Cole.

"I grew up listening to J. Cole," Trippie told Montreality. "I just knew when he first came out, [he's] one of the GOATs. He's hard, regardless of what you think. He is a rapper. He gives you nothing but bars and lyrical play, which is amazing. His lyrical play is distinct. He'll say some real shit and he'll play around with it and give you the real shit the whole time."

Even though Trippie is only 18 years old, the Ohio rapper said prefers listening to lyric driven rap instead of the high energy turn up tunes that are popular with the kids today. In fact, Trippie said he'll only listen to a few of those songs before he needs to put on something deeper with a little more substance.

"I really appreciate him and fuck with his music, because he's doing something for the culture that a lot of people aren't really doing with their [music],"he said about Cole. "I want to hear bars sometimes. I don't just listen to y'all niggas ... I play three songs like that and the rest of the time I'm playing rap music, J. Cole. Kanye."
