DeShawn Stevenson made a name for himself by claiming Lebron James was overrated.

It was 2008: Stevenson was on the Wizards and James was on his first tour of duty with the Cavs.

Lebron brushed off the taunt, saying Jay Z wouldn't respond to a diss from Soulja Boy so why should he engage Stevenson?

Upon hearing his name, Soulja sprung right into action, and did a show for the Wizards rocking a Stevenson jersey.

But what's more surprising is that Hov -- who owned a piece of the New Jersey Nets back then -- also got involved, recording the Stevenson diss 'Blow The Whistle.'

The track was a remix of a Too Short cut, and the Bay Area rapper recently explained Jay's motive for using his beat to try to shut down Stevenson.

"So I guess in his mind he was gearing up to, at that point,” Too Short explained on the Scoob B Radio podcast. “I think he was thinking about signing LeBron and having him play for the Nets, and he was courting LeBron and LeBron was special to him and old boy [Stevenson] stepped on LeBron’s toes talking shit, and Jay was like, ‘I’m going to shut this down,’ And he probably saw the moment where the crowd reacted to the song and then that was on his mind.”
Lebron ended up spurning the Nets for the Heat in 2010 and Jay Z ended up selling his piece of the Nets in 2013 so he could become a sports agent.
