Talib Kweli Reacts to Being Suspended from Twitter for Repeated Rules Violations

by Daryl Nelson

Talib Kweli has been in the news a lot lately but not for the best reasons.

The veteran rapper was dragged after being accused of bedding middle-aged porn star Sara Jay. Kweli was also criticized for saying that he washed his hands of the new Black Star album because outsiders were trying to get rich off of it.

If that wasn't enough, he was accused of harassing Maya Moody on Twitter. She's a 24-year-old Black woman, who during a conversation about colorism, implied that Kweli prefers light-skinned women.

The "Get By" creator is accused of harassing Moody after that by posting her old tweets to call her a hypocrite and spending up to 12 hours a day sending her messages.  His fans threatened Moody and her family on top of that.

According to Jezebel, Kweli was suspended from Twitter on July 23, which he spoke about with the site via email.

“Maya Moody is a liar. I’ve never cyber harassed anyone in my life," wrote Kwa. "I responded on Twitter to the lies that Maya posted about me. When you respond to someone who posts lies about you, that is not harassment ... The fact that ‘Maya Moody’ would align herself with an anti-immigrant, pro right-wing, anti-feminist, hate cult like ADOS proves that everything I’ve said about her intentions is correct.”

Where do you draw the line between a person defending themselves online and harassing someone?
