Katy Perry brought rapper Missy Elliott on to her Super Bowl halftime show as a "surprise guest."
She wanted to bring on another older school Hip Hop heavyweight, too. However, the NFL nixed her idea of having Snoop Dogg up on stage with her in part because of Snoop's ugly late 2014 feud with Iggy Azalea.
"Not that that was it -- that was just the tipping point," Perry told Elle Magazine in an interview. "You can't have that kind of hate at the Super Bowl. They already have enough female-hate problems; they don't need any more."So basically Ray Rice got Snoop banned from the Super Bowl.
This is actually a pretty big deal for Snoop. On the strength of Elliott's Super Bowl performance her songs and albums shot up the charts on iTunes and Spotify, and now she has all kinds of momentum for a comeback.
Snoop never went anywhere. But as he prepares to drop his 13th album Bush, he certainly could have used the amazing promotional juice the most watch TV event of the year would have given him.
The NFL isn't commenting on the report, with a league rep stating "We’re on to Super Bowl 50."
