SMS Boxer Yuriorkis Gamboa Is Taking 50 Cent To Court

by HHL Editors

Yuriorkis Gamboa was one of SMS Promotions big gets when he signed on with 50 Cent's boxing outfit in 2012.

But now the former WBA and IBF featherweight champ wants to cancel his SMS contract, and he's going to court to do so.

In legal filings, Gamboa says SMS promised him three fights a year. But he only got one in 2013, two in 2014 and none so far this year.

This is probably because in May SMS Promotions filed for bankruptcy, citing about two million in debts.

According to Gamboa, he's been trying since the beginning of the year to negotiate the termination of his contract with SMS, but has yet to hear back from them.

He wants a judge to force SMS -- or whatever is left of it -- to either get him fights or let him out of his contract. Another SMS boxer, Ryan Martin, is said to have filed similar court docs.

50 has his own personal bankruptcy to worry about, but it doesn't look like his SMS problems are going to go away anytime soon.
