Say what you will about SoundCloud rap and say what you will about Smokepurrp, but there's no question the two are indelibly intertwined.
Purpp considers himself the father of SoundCloud wave. However, he concedes he hasn't been the most impactful voice on the platform, instead ranking himself third most influential after two of his young peers.
"For sure Post Malone because he was like the first artist to actually blow up on SoundCloud [for "White Iverson]," he explained to HipHopDX. "He was the first artist to really go big like that from SoundCloud. And f*cking [XXXTentacion] for sure. I feel like X played a big part and then, em, me."
