Royce da 5'9" Says He's Bothered When Black People 'Talk White'

by Daryl Nelson

Royce Da 5'9"doesn't talk a lot about race but he's been doing so this year.  Which is not surprising with how intense the racial climate in the U.S. has been in 2020.

In September Nickel Nine talked about being called a house n***a for defending his good friend Eminem when Em and Lord Jamar were beefing.

Royce was a recent guest on Nick Cannon’s Cannon’s Class podcast and discussed race again, this time about how some Black people choose to speak.

“One of my pet peeves is talking white," Royce told Cannon. "I just attribute that to, like, us not knowing who we are. You gotta have an identity and it can’t be ignorance.”

Cannon then said that some people associate "talking white" with sounding intelligent.

"It’s not speaking intelligent because you could speak intelligent and not be talking white," Royce responded. "And a lot of times it’s not even to impress. It’s to fit in, send a signal that says, ‘I’m willing to be complicit, subservient and inferior to your superiority complex.’ You have to be comfortable with me being myself … I’m a multi-layered individual, but I don’t want to break myself up into different people to try to do this balancing act in life.”
