Roc Nation Demands Deepfakes Of JAY-Z Reciting Billy Joel & Shakespeare Removed

by HHL JT

You can no longer trust what you see and hear as deepfake technology gets better and better.

The latest "victim" of the digital chicanery is JAY-Z.

There's a video of Hov reciting the Billy Joel classic "We Didn't Start The Fair" and another of JAY doing the Billy Shakespeare hit "To Be, Or Not To Be".  The 50-year old did neither of these things in real life.

Roc Nation's lawyers demanded YouTube remove the videos.

As far as I know, this is the first time a musician's filed a copyright claim for deepfaked vocals, and the first time YouTube has removed a video for AI voice impersonation.

The two videos were removed briefly, but they are back.  Vocal Synthesis, who created the videos, argued they shouldn't be removed because they are clearly marked as "speed synthesis" and they aren't trying to trick anyone into thinking JAY really did these recitals, rather they are just flexing their tech.

How do you think it sounds?
