Report: Snoop Dogg's Death Row Deal Isn't As Good As It Seems

by HHL JT

Earlier this month, Snoop Dogg bought Death Row from the MNRK Music Group, which is controlled by private equity giant Blackstone.

That may not be as significant as it first sounds.  According to Billboard, Snoop's acquisition won't include some of Death Row's most significant assets, including Dr. Dre and 2Pac's catalog, because they are technically "no longer on the label."

Terms of the deal are still in flux, but it's likely Snoop Dogg himself would be the best-selling artist on the roster he would be purchasing, with Blackstone keeping most of Death Row's powerhouse catalogs.

Nevertheless, Snoop may be developing alternative ways to monetize the legendary label.
