Yesterday, Summer Jam fans listened to sets from Chris Brown, G-Unit, Meek Mill, Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean and more, oblivious to the drama that was unfolding outside of MetLife Stadium.
Riot police were called to the East Rutherford, NJ venue because some fans began crashing the gates after they were told the show was sold out, and even those with tickets wouldn't be admitted.
Hot 97, who sponsored the concert, issued this statement:
Due to strong demand for tickets for Summer Jam 2015, the show sold out early this evening. When fans realized tickets were not available at the box office, a small number of people created an unsafe environment, and for the safety of all guests, the New Jersey State Police were on scene to disperse the crowd. The gates were closed at that time. No further entry was permitted into the event. For ticket holders whose tickets were not scanned, refunds will be offered at the point of purchase.Additionally, Hot 97's Ebro Darden took responsibility for the decision to disperse the crowd.
Police used tear gas on the crowd, and some locked out fans threw bottles at the authorities. So far, no word on how many arrests were made.
