Lyor Cohen Says Drake Had Handshake Deal To Come To Def Jam

Drake at Def Jam?

According to former Def Jam boss Lyor Cohen, it almost happened.

“The truth is Drake shook my hand. Shook my hand," Cohen explained on The Breakfast Club when Charlamagne brought up the record contract that Drizzy never actually signed around 2010.

CTG then mentioned the rumor that Cohen only learned Drake had flipped over to Birdman, Lil Wayne, and Cash Money at an award show when Drake and his crew showed up wearing Cash Money shirts.

"It doesn’t matter. He didn’t stop the party. I’m happy for him and I’m happy for his fans. I didn't hurt my feelings. But I'm old school. I come from a different thing," Cohen said, clearly disappointed that Drake didn't honor his handshake.

In retrospect, Drake might wish he stuck with Def Jam, given Birdman's non-payment policies.

You can hear Cohen talk Drake at the 18-minute mark.
