You can make a good argument that the Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade is the most stunning in sports history.
Not just because Doncic and Davis are all-time great players, but because the swap came midseason and out of nowhere.
The two remaining stars of the Lakers and Mavericks, LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, have now commented on the swap.
“Just really shocked, and you just don’t imagine that you’re going to get ready to go to sleep, and then you find out news like that. It’s still a grieving process right now. I miss my hermano,” Irving said of Doncic. “This is a weird case in NBA history to be a part of. At the same time, it’s the nature of our business. It is a ruthless business. So you have to be able to pick up the pieces. Still run toward the championship. That’s the ultimate goal on why I play. Having other guys who are championship guys helps, too. But at the same time, we have to acknowledge that our little Slovenian president is no longer here and we have to adjust.”

He added that he thinks he and Doncic will make a formidable duo.
"Obviously, our ability to score, rebound, pass is going to make it a lot easier on our teammates. And that’s all we want to do. We want to create opportunities for our teammates where all they have to do is catch-finish, catch-dunk, catch-shoot, and it’s our job to lead them every single night. Look, Luka’s a big-time player, 25 years old, hasn’t even reached his prime yet and he’s done some amazing things in our league already. Happy to have him."
