Lauryn Hill's daughter Selah Marley said it wasn't all that great being raised by her famous mother and she was often beaten.
"She was just very angry. So, so, so, so, so angry," said the 21-year-old earlier this week. "She'd be like 'go get the belt' ... My mother is an amazing woman, but she obviously didn't do everything right ... And then the threats, the constant threats… That belt man. That’s that slave s**t."
Selah also called her father Rohan Marley an absentee parent, which he's already responded to. Marley didn't own up to not being around but he apologized for wrongdoing.
But Lauryn didn't apologize when she responded to Selah's claims Thursday on Instagram, and she said the beatings were necessary.
"Selah has every right to express herself, I encourage it, but she also got the discipline that black children get because we are held to a different standard," wrote Lauryn. "The discipline was seen through the lens of a young child who also had no place to reconcile me as mom, and me as a larger than life public figure ... If I am guilty of anything it is disciplining in anger, not in disciplining."
"We're both learning and healing, and each of my children has a similar story and journey," the singer went on. "All of you in a rush to crucify someone, careful who you string up or nail up. You might have an extremely limited view of the actual reality."
