As of this summer, the chicken sandwich space became a battle between Popeyes and Chick-Fil-A.

OG chicken slingers KFC has a plan on how they are going to get back in the game and some might say they're going to be cheating.

The house that Colonel Sanders built is currently testing a chicken sandwich in the Richmond, Virginia and Western Pennsylvania in which the traditional bun is switched out for a glazed donut.

“Served hot and fresh, no matter the time of day, the donuts create a tasty flavor experience in every bite. Consumers will have a variety of options to satisfy their sweet and savory taste buds,” said a spokesperson.

The donut sandwich concept has been around for a while, but KFC would be the first major chain to embrace it with fried chicken. 

Are you heading down to VA or PA for a taste? That's probably easier than getting your hands on a Popeyes chicken sandwich.
