Kendrick Lamar's 'To Pimp A Butterfly' Breaks Spotify Single Day Record

by HHL Editors

The surprise drop of To Pimp A Butterfly late Sunday night sent Kendrick Lamar fans clamoring to Spotify on Monday.

So much so that K.Dot has just shattered Drake's mark for most album streams in one day.

The day after its release last month, Drake's If You're Reading This It's Too Late had 6.8 million Spotify spins. Lamar crushed that total Monday with 9.6 million spins for TPAB.

Whether this translates to opening week Gold (500,000 sales), like Drizzy did, remains to be seen.

There were some problems with TPAB's iTunes distribution on Monday, which may end up costing Lamar some sales.

On the other hand, K.Dot's album should be available in stores, whereas Drake's was digital only. Whether To Pimp A Butterfly hits shelves in time to boast its first week sales is unclear.

But what is clear is Lamar's label Top Dawg expects very big things.
