Kelis Gives Details Of Violent Relationship with Nas

Kelis, who's been locked in a nasty custody battle with Nas, opened up about her tumultuous relationship with her ex during a Hollywood Unlocked interview.

"I was really naive. I was madly in love. So I took a lot that I shouldn't have taken," she said of her marriage to Nas.

Kelis explained that she filed for divorce when she was seven months pregnant with their child and believes it was her pregnancy that finally convinced her to end what was a toxic relationship. While she says Nas wasn't fateful to her from the beginning, what pushed her over the edge was the violence. 

"It's really dark. There was a lot of drinking. There was a lot of mental and physical abuse," Kelis explained. "We would fight. I never just sat there. But we would definitely fight."

She went on to say they would both hit each other during their fights and Nas often wouldn't remember what happened because he was so drunk. (Nas does have an established history of getting sloppy on booze.)

"When the Rihanna and Chris Brown pictures came out I thought about coming out because I also had bruises all over my body. But I didn’t say anything because I’m private. But seeing her the way she looked and then looking at myself… I felt embarrassed,” Kelis stated.
