Kanye West Talks Race And Love In BET Honors Speech

by HHL Editors

Kanye West actually received his BET Honors Visionary Award last month, but the event wasn't televised until last night.

We already knew some details of speech: Damon Dash introduced 'Ye and among Kanye's comments were a (perhaps unintentionally) funny line about his wife Kim Kardashian not being a gold digger.

But now we have the whole speech. It's a powerful one  in which West talks racism and love, and criticizes the materialism that he knows he often embraces.

"It’s the mentality, the slave mentality. When we all eventually become slaves to that car. Slaves to the perception. Slaves to the idea of being cool," Kanye says.
It's all typical Kanye; complicated, interesting, sometimes paradoxical, and entertaining. Check it out, as well as Dame Dash's intro, below.
