Kanye West Blames God For Taylor Swift VMA Incident

by HHL JT

Kanye West's interruption of Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards to advocate for Beyonce is one of the most notorious pop-cultural events of the millennium.

Since then, Swift has become the biggest selling artist in the world and Kanye a punchline -- albeit a very rich and famous one.  (Although Ye didn't quite make Swift "famous", the-then 19-year old already had two many-times platinum albums under her belt when West stage rushed her.)

During his discussion with Nick Cannon, Kanye explained that God made him do it. [Jump to 29 minutes.]

"If God ain't want me to run on stage and say Beyoncé had the best video, he wouldn't have sat me in the front row," Kanye explained. "I woulda been sitting in the back. They wouldn't have made it the first award and it wouldn't have made it so ridiculous of an idea because I would have heard of this person before then. And "Single Ladies" is one of the greatest videos of all time."

Ye did concede that alcohol was also involved.  But says he was only sipping Henny because he was worried about what would transpire.

"I was only drinking Hennessy because I didn't want to go to the awards show because it was a set-up," the rapper explained, suggesting he knew what God had in store for him.
