Justin Timberlake Explains How The Clipse Prevented Him From Working With Pharrell

by HHL JT

Justin Timberlake's new album Man of The Woods will have production from the Neptunes.

It will be the first time he's worked with Pharrell and Chad Hugo since his 2002 debut album Justified, which has its majority of production from the duo.

In an interview with Zane Lowe, Timberlake gave the "real" answer as to why he didn't work with Pharrell for so many years.

“I was not able to work with Pharrell. I gotta say this the right way because I don’t wanna blame anyone for anything, but it did change the change the course of things,” he explains. “Everyone remembers Clipse. Clipse was signed to Jive Records, which I was signed to. I don’t know what went on with their deal, but I do remember that Pharrell was very adamant about getting them out of the deal. So, from my understanding, it became challenging for him to work with any Jive artist from that point. If I'm being totally honest about it, I was extremely hurt ... I didn't want to be between the record label and someone I considered a friend, so I feel like I kinda just removed myself from the situation."

JT has left Jive for RCA, which probably explains why Pharrell is back on board. Check the interview below.
