Joey Bada$$'s fans might have scratched their heads when he dropped the pop tinged single 'Devastated' last year, but it looks like releasing it was an extremely good idea.
On January 6, the song was certified gold by the RIAA, which is the first time one of Joey's songs reached that mark.
Back in August, he talked about the catchy tune and said he wasn't trying to go pop, he just wanted to create something different.
"When I made that song 'Devastated,' I just had one mission in mind," said the Pro Era leader on The Breakfast Club. "I wasn't even trying to make a hit song. I wanted to make an uplifting song. I want to be one of the greatest artists of all time. I don't just rap to be an underground rapper. I rap because I want to be one of the biggest, one of the greatest influences in the world when it comes to music."Now with a gold record behind him and a global fan base that's growing he could be well on his way to achieving that goal.
