Jermaine Dupri Says He Blew It By Not Signing One Of The 90s Biggest Acts

by Daryl Nelson

Jermaine Dupri caused a whole bunch of controversy last year when he said today's female MCs are like "strippers rapping."

The So So Def boss hasn't worked with a lot of female MCs in his career besides Da Brat, and he's probably more known for working with the R&B act Xscape when it comes to women.

But out of all the acts Dupri has signed, he regrets not signing one group in particular.

"I regret not trying to do TLC at the same time as Kris Kross," he told Black Love during a Q&A. "I was only 19- years-old at the time and didn't believe in myself as a person, as someone having the bandwidth to have both artists. I was putting so much energy into Kriss Kross, and I was only giving TLC maybe 30 to 40 percent, not even 50 percent."

"I felt I was spreading myself thin by trying to provide both of these groups what they needed to become the success they eventually both grew to become," added Dupri. "So I eliminated myself from TLC being a group that I actually introduced to the world."
