JAY-Z And Saul Williams Spar Over "Economic Freedom" & Systemic Racism

by HHL JT

In an old interview Saul Williams posted on his Instagram page to criticize Black Friday, the artist and poet called out JAY-Z for the economic message in his bars.

"Get your freedom by any means neccesary has now shifted to get money by any means neccesary. So Somebody made the mistake of equating money with liberation. Or money with it being the ultimate power." Williams said. "You hear an artist like JAY-Z saying on The Black Album, 'Well, I couldn't help poor people if I was poor.' Correction: the majority of our leaders and people who have helped us at the time have not been able to help us because they have money, they helped us because they had vision."

Hov caught wind of that and sent Saul an email, which Williams then displayed on his Instagram page with a rebuttal.

Who do you think is right? (And what do you think of Williams publishing a private email like that?)
