In their prime, Murder Inc. was a force to be reckoned with. The label, spearheaded by Ja Rule and Irv Gotti, sold millions of records, introduced Ashanti to the world, and ultimately got raided by the feds. While the talk of big screen biopics in hip-hop increased after Straight Outta Compton, the founders of Murder Inc. are going in a slightly different direction.
In an interview with Vibe, Ja Rule said he hopes to produce a TV drama based around the peak days of Murder Inc. Irv Gotti is also joining him in developing it. Paramount is apparently already on board, although no network has yet to express interest. As Ja puts it, he's looking at a home in HBO or Showtime so they can deliver a series with less restrictions than basic cable.
