J. Cole's '2014 Forest Hills Drive' To Have Biggest First Week of Hip Hop Year

by HHL Editors

According to Hits Daily Double, J. Cole's new album 2014 Forest Hills Drive is expected to sell between 240,000-270,000 units in its first week. That would easily top Rick Ross's March release Mastermind (179,000) for the biggest debut of the Hip Hop year.

It would still be slightly behind J. Cole's last album, Born Sinner, which moved 297,000 copies in its first week back in 2013. However, as you probably know, it's has become a lot harder to sell albums since. Additionally, the new Cole album was leaked on the web last week. (Granted, this could have been stealth marketing.)

2014 Forest Hills Drive still comes nowhere close to Eminem's MMLP2, which was last year's biggest Hip Hop debut with 793,000 in its first seven days.

If these projections hold, 2014 Forest Hills Drive would also be the best selling album in the entire industry for the week, topping Taylor Swift's record-breaking blockbuster 1989, which is expected to sell around 200,000 in its seventh week.
