It's not exactly Aerosmith and Run DMC. Because Maroon 5 is not exactly rock, even if frontman Adam Levine sometimes plays the rock star on TV. Nevertheless, there was some melding of genres -- we'll call it Hip Hop and pop -- in J. Cole's remix of the Maroon 5 hit Animals, which is getting play all over the internet this Monday.
The song more or less sounds like the original for its first half, heavy on Levine's auto-tune aided soul. Then Cole busts in with a verse, picking up on the song's theme of sexual obsession with the line "I need a fix like D-boys need bricks. I hope your new man don’t mind / Girl, you mine forever."
You can listen to the song here. Do you think J. Cole brought his a A game to the track?
