Issa Rae Says The Music Industry Is Filled With 'Crooks & Criminals'

by Daryl Nelson

Although Issa Rae is a TV star, she has some ties to the music industry.

She started her own record label called Raedio a while back and she works with artists and their labels for the soundtrack to her show Insecure.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Rae talked about having some horrible experiences with the music industry and said it's filled with nothing but crooks.

"It’s probably the worst industry I’ve ever come across," she said. "I thought Hollywood was crazy. The music industry, it has to start all over again. There are lots of conflicts of interest. Archaic mentalities. Villains and criminals. It’s an addiction industry, and I really feel for artists who need to get into it. … It was something shocking to discover ... I do not want to be too specific, but even with making our own appointments [for soundtracks] with labels or artists, it would be so intricate. And to find out how artists were treated on other labels [I was taken aback]."

Any thoughts on Rae's comments?
