HHE Exclusive: Krizz Kaliko On What Inspired 'Go,' Dream Collabs, His Mom's Intro & More

by Sermon

Krizz Kaliko is Strange Music's best kept secret. His sound should be undeniable for radio, but, of course, that industry functions a lot differently than the underground music scene. Krizz can make you dance, make you cry, make you feel amazed at his lyricism, and take you to a dark depressive place all on one album. This time around, that album is Go.

In an exclusive sitdown with Hip Hop Early, Kali said that Go was inspired by the idea of Travis O'Guinn (Strange Music founder) wanting him to release an album where he's only singing.

"Travis said, 'you could probably out rap everybody. How far do you want that to take you, though? You just want to be everybody's favorite rapper? I think people are more of a fan of your singing songs. I think you should be do a singing album.' I was like, 'no, no, no.' I showed people I'm an elite rapper. I'm not just a singer who tries to rap. I can hang with or out rap some of the best of them. He was right. That's tight. Who cares? He convinced me to do this singing album."
Go only featured Strange Music artists, but that wasn't always Krizz's vision. When asked why he only had his label roster featured, he revealed that his collaborations/ideas with Pharrell, Cee-Lo Green, Lil Jon, and Flo-Rida just didn't pan out this time around. He's hopeful that they'll happen in the future.

In addition, I spoke with Krizz about hearing his Mom's intro for the first time, how he wants to have a hit on the radio, his feelings toward his life after recording Go, and more. Watch it below.
