GZA Of Wu-Tang Explains Why Soul Food Is The "Slave Man's Diet"

by Benny Franklin

GZA of Wu-Tang Clan is proud to eat a plant-based diet.

The Genius recently sat down to do a video interview with NowThis, where he discussed food choices and food education in poor communities.

Right off the bat, GZA calls soul food the slave man's diet.

As Black people, a lot of us had the worst diets. We eat some of the, I mean, we eat things I can never even think of. There’s a saying, you know, I’ve read it a few times, that soul food is really like slave man’s diet.

He goes on to explain why we eat the way we eat, and what needs to happen to break the cycle.

You’re eating what your parents are feeding you, so your diet is passed on. If you don’t change that, then that’s the same diet that’s passed on down from generation to generation ’til you change that.
