The Game's The Documentary 2 did about 80K in its first week. It's a number that looks small compared to the original Documentary going Gold in seven days. But a decade later things have changed.
Instead of packaging his two albums together, Game wanted to see how much he could do if he dropped two albums separately, and it appears that The Documentary 2.5 is going to fall short.
2.5 is on pace to do 45-50K (sales plus streaming) according to HDD. That's just a bit more than half of what The Documentary 2 did, but it's hard to convince your fans to buy two albums so close to each other. Had Game released 2.5 before 2, he'd likely see similar overall results. Which suggests regardless of which disc is superior, the second one was going to sell substantially less.
The other big Hip Hop release on Friday was Machine Gun Kelly's sophomore album General Admission. The follow up to 2012's Lace Up, is expected expected to move 45-50K in its opening week.
