by HHL Editors

G-Eazy can call himself the people's champ.

The bay area spitter was a somewhat surprising winner at the People's Choice awards last night, beating out Kendrick Lamar, DJ Khaled, Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa to win Favorite Hip Hop Artist.

He took to Twitter to thank all the of fans who voted for him.

Love and respect to the fans yall are the reason we're here in the first place and get to do the shit we do, forever grateful

If you're wondering "what about Drake?" here's your answer:

They put him in the Favorite R&B Artist category, where he lost to Beyonce.

Drake’s Views and Beyoncé’s Lemonade ended up losing to country singer and TV personality Blake Shelton's If I'm Honest in the Favorite Album category.

All in all, it seems like the "people" who vote for the People's Choice Awards aren't traditional Hip Hop fans.
