Future's Producer Metro Boomin Explains How To Make It In The Mixtape Game

by HHL Editors

If Monster 2 and Beast Mode 2 come out before the end of the year -- and there's a decent chance that they will -- Future will have dropped five mixtapes and one studio album in 2015.

Since this constant stream of new material has fueled Mr. Hendrix's jump to superstardom, other young rappers might see such uber-productivity as the way to go.

But Metro Boomin, one of Future's favorite producers, isn't so sure. He got on Twitter today and explained that while dropping a tape every couple months can work for rare talents like Future, Gucci Mane and Lil Wayne, everybody else needs to be a bit more careful about their quality/quantity balance:

Everyday I wake up, new mixtapes are falling out of the sky.. I think we all know where the trend came from lol pic.twitter.com/dytHN7fubs

Don't tweet me about anything before 2014 because that's not what I'm talking about. Talk to me about the CURRENT state of rap music. — Metro Boomin (@MetroBoomin) November 9, 2015

Niggas know Guwop and Weezy legends. What's understood doesn't have to be explained.

All I'm saying is, I wish that everyone would put out more quality music over the quantity. It's a marathon, not a sprint. — Metro Boomin (@MetroBoomin) November 9, 2015

Moral of the story is, putting out 5 tapes in a year won't make you heat up like Future. That was just his path. It's not for everyone

Just take all the hardest songs from the 5 tapes you plan on dropping, and make 1 tape full of fire. #qualityovereverything — Metro Boomin (@MetroBoomin) November 9, 2015
