Future Says He Wants To Be An Underground Artist Again

by Daryl Nelson

Artists usually want to leave the underground for the mainstream, not the other way around.

In a new interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, Future bucks that by saying he wants to go back to the very beginning of his career.

"I just feel like I want to go back to being a more underground [artist]," he said. "Just reconnecting with fans. Just more hands-on, being back with my fans."

Just announced! @1future lays out the mission of his self-titled album. He talks to @zanelowe on Thursday. https://t.co/Qxp6GUhA0b pic.twitter.com/URqnJSXRUQ

Elsewhere in the interview, the Freebandz leader said he doesn't want to be pigenhold into dropping the same kind of songs that were on his previous projects

"I don't want to be attached to What a Time To Be Alive or the Dirty Sprite 2s," he explained. "Even though that's me, but that was something special. That was a moment ... Because people gonna always try to compare if it's hotter than this. Nah, it's two separate things. It's a different lane."
