Drake's 'If You're Reading This It's Too Late' Is The First Platinum Album of 2015

By HHL Editors

It was never entirely clear if Drake's If You're Reading This It's Too Late  was an album or a mixtape.

Whatever it is, it became the first album released in 2015 to go platinum after Nielsen Music certified it 1.007 million for the week ending August 7.

IYRTITL is Drake's fourth million selling album, following 2013's Nothing Was the Same ( 1.72 million), 2011's Take Care (2.26 million) and 2010's Thank Me Later (1.8 million).

Even though it is the first platinum album of 2015, it is not the best selling album of the year.

That would got to the machine that is Taylor Swift. Her 1989 has sold over 5 million copies since being released in October of 2014, including about 1.4 million in 2015.

Drake used IG to congratulate himself on the accomplishment:

Platinum off the tape. Views up next. Thank you once again.
