Diggy Simmons Says He Was Scared To Release Music For Six Years

by Daryl Nelson

Diggy Simmons is OCD and trying to be perfect has kept him away from the music scene.

"I haven't released a music project in six years," he wrote on Instagram. "All due to overthinking my ideas, my OCD, being too invested in the unknown and the fear of an uncertain outcome. For years I let my irrationalities and the negative perceptions of others overcome what I perceived of myself."

Simmons, who's the son of Run from Run-D.M.C., just released a new single called "It Is What It Is," and during an interview, he spoke more about his past insecurities.

"I'm an ultra perfectionist to the point where it pisses people around me off," he admitted. "Like I said, 'It Is What it Is.' That's what I kinda had to say about myself. I can't be anymore [than I am]. I can't worry about what people think 'cause you know, that was a layer of it. Me not living in what I wanted to do ... [Now I'm] able to say, 'It's okay to bump my head. It's okay if it's not perfect.'"

Besides being Run's son, Diggy is also the nephew of Russell Simmons, who may be fleeing the United States to avoid a growing number of sexual assault and rape accusations. Diggy hasn't spoken on any of that yet, he's just talking about his new single, which you can check out below.
