Diddy Says He's Rap's First Billionaire [UPDATED]

by HHL Editors

There are 1,826 billionaires in the world, and 536 in the United States.

Is Diddy one of them?

He makes that claim in this ad for AQUAhydrate, which is the bottled water company he owns with Mark Wahlberg and others.

"A young boy from Harlem, I couldn't even be a waiter," Diddy says. "They didn't want me to be a waiter, so you know what I did? I became a billionaire."
But is Diddy a billionaire?

A year ago, Forbes had his net worth at $750 million, edging Dr. Dre* for the most moola in the rap game.

That's fairly close to a billion, and the stock market has been ripping since then.

So we'll give Puff his billion. Congrats on quite an accomplishment.

*  If you're wondering about Dre, the Apple Deal didn't make him a billionaire, and he hasn't claimed billionaire status -- like Puff just did -- since.

Update: It looks like Diddy got a little ahead of himself, as he's retracted his claim he's worth a billion dollars.
