Unfortunate news out of my native area: a rapper from Southeast DC was killed during a rap video gone wrong, leading to one of his co-stars being arrested for the murder. At the time of his death, Keaway Lafonz Ivy was filming a music video in Seat Pleasant, Maryland, home of Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant.
Ivy, a 21 year old up and coming rapper, was pronounced dead in a parking lot in the 400 block of Eastern Avenue near the MD/DC border at about 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
DC police have charged Lafonzo Leonard Iracks, 21, in connection with Ivy’s death. The two rappers were shooting the music video when Iracks discharged his prop weapon, resulting in a life-ending situation for Ivy. The investigators are currently unclear on whether or the shooting was intentional.
Iracks is currently being held in D.C. and is awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County, however no charges have been filed as yet.
At this moment, Kealo’s biggest hit, 'Hang With Me', has less than 5,000 plays on YouTube.
