We now have a motive in the David Ortiz shooting, and it's a doozy.

The Daily Mail reports:

Police in the Dominican Republic believe former Boston Red Sox star David 'Big Papi' Ortiz was shot by two cops hired by a Dominican Republic drug lord who believed the baseball player was having an affair with his wife, DailyMail.com has learned. 

Three law enforcement sources confirmed the motive on Monday as Ortiz, 43, recovered in the hospital.   

The drug lord has not been named.

Ortiz's camp has confirmed that his shooters were hired killers, but deny he was banging a drug lord's wife. Ortiz has been married for 17 years.

The Red Sox legend was hit in the back by a gunman on a motorbike and suffered damage to his liver, colon, and gallbladder. After several hours of surgery in the Dominican Republic, he was flown to Boston. He is in stable condition and is expected to recover.
