Cordae Explains Why He's Not In YBN Crew Anymore

by Daryl Nelson

Some rap collectives die an early death, while others like Oakland's Hieroglyphics have been around since the '90s.

The YBN collective was pretty short-lived. The crew included members YBN Almighty J, YBN Nahmir and the very lyrical YBN Cordae.

Nahmir announced last month they disbanded, so Cordae dropped the YBN from his name soon after.

The Lost Boy rapper recently chopped it up with Tidal's Elliott Wilson about the breakup and said there's no beef between himself and his former crew.

"Namir and Jay, those always gonna be my brothers in real life,” said Cordae, who dropped his new single "Gifted," featuring Roddy Rich last week. “Like, I think the world of them cats. Sometimes as friends, you grow apart and you have different visions for what you wanna do and that’s OK, there’s no love lost. Like I said, I think the world of them n*ggas. I love my n*gga Jay to death and yeah, that’s just that really.”

Based on his skills, do you think Cordae has a chance to stand with the all-time greats of rap history?
