Chris Rock Says Today's Rappers Aren't Living Up To Kendrick Lamar

by Daryl Nelson

Chris Rock has always been closely connected to Hip Hop. He's spoken plenty about rappers, both in interviews and in his stand-up routines.

Rock also did an album intro for Rick Ross' Rather You Than Me and Busta Rhymes' new release Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God.

The beloved comedian was a recent guest on Desus & Mero and was asked what rappers he's listening to these days. Rock said he's into artists that make full albums like Kendrick Lamar, not rappers who just have hot singles. [Jump to 13:21 mark].

"Who's the new album artists, you know what I mean? Like, I like DaBaby, but is there a DaBaby album?" Rock asked. "There's a lot of guys dropping hot singles, which is lovely. But I like to [listen to] a whole experience that I can marinate on. Kendrick [Lamar] is, like, the truth. That's what I'm fiending for. Like that experience ... [I want] a musical journey.  The ups, the downs, the weird single, the weird album track that you know was never gonna be a single, but you love it."

What current artists do you think make complete albums these days like Rock is talking about?
