Chance The Rapper Answers Those Who Want Him To Run For Chicago Mayor

by Daryl Nelson

A couple of months ago, some people from Chicago wanted Chance The Rapper to run for mayor of the city, and they even created a website called chano4mayor.com to get the ball rolling. They also set up a Twitter account named @chano4mayor2k19.

Although the rapper doing all kinds of good deeds for Chicago, including raising $2 million for the local school system, he told Ebony magazine that he has no interest in becoming a politician.

"I would never run for any office or government position," said Chance. "I'm not into it. I think politics is a reason why a lot of stuff doesn't get done. There's a lot of favors and a lot of people are held back by their intentions or being re-elected or the things that they owe their party or constituents. I think when you're in my position as an artist, I can say what I want and talk about the issues that matter."
Do you agree? Can an artist create more positive change than someone in elected office? You can read more of Chano's interview here.
